'Chaya' is the Malayalam (language spoken in the state of Kerala) word for tea. It's also (commonly) referred to as 'chai' in Hindi (and other languages).
It's a staple drink in India and South Asian households around the world!
You can call it 'chaya', 'chai', etc. Just don't call it 'chai tea latte'...
Chaya podi is the Malayalam term for tea dust. Our tea dust is produced from tea leaves of a plant called Camellia sinensis which is grown in the Niligiri Mountains of South India.
The tea leaves are picked and then cut, teared, and curled ('CTC'). This is how CTC tea dust is made from tea leaves! The process is way simpler than it sounds - it takes the experience of seasoned blenders to get make our tea dust perfect for making the perfect cup of chaya!
Oonyall's Nilgiri black tea is made up of crush-teared-curled (CTC) black tea leaves grown in the Nilgiri Mountains in South India.
